Principal's MessageAs we look to the 2011-2012 school year, we will look to continue our growth as a school community. While we have room for growth in our numbers, the “growth” I am referring to relates more to our process of creating an environment where every student and adult can growth together – a community of learners.
The WD staff recently hosted our annual Parent Volunteer Tea. We had a good turnout of parents who have given their time, energy, and support to WD programs all year long. However, we know that there are many of you who could not attend. Please know how much our entire staff values the support that our parent community gives us. It is truly an honor to serve in this community.
As you prepare your summer plans, I encourage you to build in some time for your child to stay connected to their learning. There is educational research that points to students regressing in their learning and skills if they do not stay connected to learning activities. Even 30 minutes, 5 times a week of academic work (reading, writing, math, etc.) can go a long way at minimizing the academic regression that we see when students return in August. Do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher for summer recommendations. The WD Library website also includes free online resources for summer learning. Here is another free online resource that can make summer learning fun.
I truly hope that you enjoy your summer time together as a family. I look forward to running into WD families around town. Lastly, please keep the following important dates in mind:
Sincerely,

If the student is unenrolling, there may not be a space at their current school for the student to return in the fall. In this case the student may have to be diverted to another school in the district. Middle and High school students may not be able to access their elective choices if they are reenrolled.

Ride the Bus! The TRAFFIX program is in its second year of operation at our school, and it has been a great success in decreasing traffic congestion by providing a safe and convenient school bus service. The TRAFFIX bus service is a great way for kids to get to school – kids love riding the bus and parents enjoy the convenience of having their children ride the bus to school. With gas prices on the rise, parents are also saving money because the cost of a TRAFFIX bus pass is more affordable than driving. Thank you for visting us! |
