Principal's Message
Dear Disney Community, As the 2011-12 school year enters its final few weeks, I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for making this school community such an amazing place for our children. To those families who are concluding their final year at Disney or are moving over the summer, I thank you for all your contributions to the Disney community and wish you well in your next adventure. For those returning, we are in the process of preparing for the 2012-13 School Year. If you wish to provide input for our staff as we place students in their classes for next year, there is a “Parent Input Form” available on the front counter of the office. The recent auction was a great evening of entertainment, socializing, and generous support of our school. I am continuously amazed at the outpouring of support from our community to provide many of the educational experiences and opportunities for the students at Walt Disney. I would like to thank each of you who provided your time, donations, and financial contributions to make our 2012 auction such a great success! I assure you that our students are the ones who benefit from this evening the most. As we prepare our students for the future, we have an exciting opportunity to place more technology devices in the hands of our students to further their educational opportunities. Next school year our 5th grade students will each have their own 1:1 iPad device for use in the classroom. This will allow all of our students to also have more frequent learning opportunities with the iPads and laptops. This setting will increase the level of differentiation and individual instruction based on student need, allow for more project based learning opportunities, and prepare our students for how to communicate and collaborate in a global society. In addition, all classrooms will be equipped with an iPad for everyday use in both teaching and learning. It has been amazing to hear our students using the different character trait language around campus over the course of the year. I had a parent recently share that she was speaking to her child about “Integrity” and her child responded by saying “I know what integrity is. We talk about it at school.” Comments like these remind me of how important it is to talk about what it means to be a citizen of high character. Our character trait for the months of May and June is “Friendship”. Most of the disputes that occur on our campus are related to friendship issues. Please talk with your students over the course of the next few weeks about what it means to be a good friend. Thanks again for another great school year! It is the partnership between the school and home which allows our students to thrive and make their dreams become a reality.
Warmly, Curtis Haar Donorschoose

The TRAFFIX program is in its second year of operation at our school, and it has been a great success in decreasing traffic congestion by providing a safe and convenient school bus service. The TRAFFIX bus service is a great way for kids to get to school – kids love riding the bus and parents enjoy the convenience of having their children ride the bus to school. With gas prices on the rise, parents are also saving money because the cost of a TRAFFIX bus pass is more affordable than driving. Thank you! |
